Pastor’s Blog 04/16

THANK YOU
This past weekend was very busy. IT began with our first “Night of Worship” on Friday night. We had a wonderful time hearing testimonies, singing to and about the Lord, and listening to a devotion via internet by John Piper. Thanks to Jen Bourbonais for planning this community wide time of worship. On Saturday, we had a work day. This effort resulted in over 40 older children, students, and adults gathered to work at the church. It would take too long to share how much and what types of work was done. Suffice it to say that there was a lot issues taken care of. A big “Thank You” goes to Forest Dunlop and Scott Crestman, our Building and Grounds Team’s Co-Leaders. I love the way folks come together to get things done. Thank you all so much. We love and appreciate all who assisted.

RESURRECTION SUNDAY
Sunday we will have Two (2) worship services. The first will be at 8:30am and the next at 10:30am. They will be identical. We will not have bible study at 9:30am. This is always a special time to gather. It’s also a great opportunity to invite unchurched neighbors, friends, family and co-workers to attend as well. Please pray for every aspect of the services, the music and the preaching. Pray that God will work in the hearts of those who need Christ to trust Him.

EASTER MUSIC THANKS
Sunday morning we were blessed with a wonderful presentation the life of Christ. I want to thank Jen Bourbonais for directing the choir, for writing the drama and enlisting helpers, and for preparing the power point for this wonderful presentation. It was a real blessing. A big thank you as well to those who participated, our choir, children and adults who were part of the drama; to our AV Team; to all of those who assisted. For those who may have missed it, it’s up on our facebook page. It has already had many many “hits,” along with comments. I hope you were blessed. We have wonderfully talented people that God is using for His glory. I hope you’ll share with Jen and the others a word of thanks when you see them. We will be doing a piece from the music this coming Lord’s Day. Hope to see you then. For me, Resurrection Sunday never gets old. I still marvel at what took place prior to, during and after the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. He is why we do what we do. His glory is the driving priority in our life and in our worship. Join me in praying for our services this coming Sunday as well as for any and all other churches who preach Christ as the “only” Way, Truth, and Life. God bless you. Happy Resurrection Day! I love y’all.

NIGHT OF WORSHIP

We are only a few weeks away from this special time in the life of our church. It is a community wide event to seek to bring folks together to worship. It’s call the “Night of worship.” It will be held on Friday evening, April 12, beginning at 6:30pm. We trust that this will bring followers of Christ closer together, as well as praying for a fresh encounter with God. I hope you plan to attend.

SATURATE USA

We will begin the process of seeking to get the gospel into every home that we can in our area. This first of these planned handouts will be on Sunday, March 31, beginning at 3:30pm. We will gather for prayer and then receive assignments. If you are interested in distributing some in your neighborhood but cannot attend, please let the church office know. We can get the bags needed into your hands for distribution. There will be no afternoon or evening activities on that day. Let’s pray that God will use this emphasis to reach individuals and families with the gospel.

CHILDREN’S BIBLE DRILL

The Associational Bible Drill will be held on Sunday, March 31, beginning at 2pm at Hernando Baptist Church. For those who can attend, I encourage you to do so. I am so appreciative of Julie Magliolo beginning this process in our church on Sunday evenings. Please pray for our children who will be participating. For those who attended this past Sunday night for the church drill, you can tell this is not an easy thing to do. I hope you can attend to encourage our children.

SENDING HOPE

There are two weeks left to give to the “Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions. The goal is $70 million. Every dime of this offering goes right to ministry.  We have offering envelopes and prayer guide available. For those who wish to do so, you can also us “PurshPay” for this special offering. Please pray about what God would have you to give as well as for this offering.

“BECAUSE HE LIVES AMEN”

That is the title of our Adult Choir Easter music. We will present this on Sunday morning, April 14 at 10:30am. We’re excited about sharing this gospel presentation of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord. I want to thank Jen Bourbonais for her preparation as we look to this presentation. I hope that you will invite unchurches friends, family and co-workers for this message.

CAN GOD TRUST YOU WITH REVIVAL?

That is a pertinent question in our day. As I shared Sunday, the need for revival comes from a steady downward spiral. A. W. Tozer shared the progressive stages in his book entitled Rut, Rot or Revival. He shared the following stages:

  1. Rote=This is repetition without feeling.
  2. Rut=This is when we become in bondage to the rote.
  3. Rot=This is when the church becomes afflicted with dry rot, nonexpectation, spiritual rigidity, and a lack of desire for spiritual improvement.

He goes on to share that when people in church point to others for improvement and not to themselves, it is sure evidence that the church has come to dry rot. It is proof of three sins: the sin of self-righteousness, the sin of judgment and the sin of complacency.  As we also saw however, there is always hope. It relies in a total return to Him. This Sunday we will examine “Revival and Confession” from 1 John 1:5-10. I want to encourage you read, meditate on and pray over that passage as you prepare for the Lord’s Day.

Looking forward to our services this coming Lord’s Day and praying for revival in my life and in the life of our church. God bless you. I love y’all.

NIGHT OF WORSHIP

We are planning a community wide “Night of worship” here on Friday evening, April 12, beginning at 6:30pm. We trust that this will bring followers of Christ closer together, as well as praying for a fresh encounter with God. I hope you plan to attend.

SATURATE USA

We had a great start to this community outreach process. We had 32 youth/adults here. God allowed us to stuff over 4,000 bags. We have many more that can be filled.  I really believe that God is allowing us this wonderful opportunity to really go after it in Lewisburg and beyond. We will be distributing these bags on Sunday afternoon, March 31, beginning at 3:30pm. We have three areas that we will cover on that day. Pray that God will use these to impact our community. Plan to be part of the community outreach.  If you would like to take some bags and canvass your neighborhood or subdivision, just let us know. We can provide them for you.

CHILDREN’S BIBLE DRILL

This Sunday night at 5pm we will have the church wide Bible Drill. This will take the major portion of our worship service. I urge you to attend to watch and to encourage our children who are preparing for the Associational Drill at Hernando Baptist Church on Sunday, March 31 at 2pm.

SENDING HOPE

That is the theme of the “Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions. The goal is $70 million. Every dime of this offering goes right to ministry. We will receive this offering through March 31. We have offering envelopes and prayer guide available. For those who wish to do so, you can also us “PushPay” for this special offering. Please pray about what God would have you to give as well as for this offering.

NEW MEMBER/GUEST INFORMATION LUNCH

If you are a new member or a frequent guest, please sign up for this lunch. It will take place on Sunday, March 24, immediately following the morning service. Please also include the number attending for our purpose in planning. You’ll be able to learn about our core values, meet the staff, and ask questions that you may have. Hope to see you

there.

REVIVAL IS LIKE JUDGMENT DAY

This past Sunday evening we watched a message by the late Dr. J. Edwin Orr entitled “Revival is Like Judgment Day.” For those of you who missed it, you can access it on YouTube. I urge you to watch it. It was his last message on this earth. He passed away the next morning.

This past weekend Deb and I participated in the “Love and Respect” seminar. It was a real blessing to us. Although married close to 40 years, we learned a lot. Some of our responses to what we learned were “Amen.” At other times, they were “Oh me.” Marriage is like the Christian life. It can and will have ebbs and flows. That’s true of individuals and churches. Our church (and many others) is in need of revival. This is a process, not an event or a series of meetings. As we get closer to Resurrection Sunday, I want us to spend some time looking inwardly. Please pray for me as I begin a series on Revival this coming Sunday. Pray that God would move in our midst. Pray that we would become more God-centered in our vision and in our practices. I am praying that very thing for me.

On a final note, pray for those of our number who are out of during spring break. God bless each of you. I love y’all.
